About

The Short: My name is Ryan and this is stuff I’ve written. It is collected from various sites where I have blogged since 2001 including my old LiveJournal, Diaryland and Blogger sites.

The Long: My name is Ryan Sutter and I have a lot interests, developed over a (so far) very interesting life.  This site reflects those interests, even though they usually have nothing to do with each other.

For one thing, I was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses from birth to age 31.  I have since become extremely interested in humanism, Buddhism, philosophy, Biblical criticism, religious history and various other topics in the religious vein.  I write about these things on occasion and discuss them on my podcast.  I currently attend a Unitarian Universalist congregation in Minneapolis, MN with a strong humanist leaning.
I am, by profession, a software developer/analyst.  I work for my own company.  I’ve been working in computer software since 1994 and I’ve written some books about web development.

The religious stuff and computer stuff are not the whole story, however.  I am a musician and occasional amateur filmmaker.  I have written and recorded a lot of music in my life, including working on 16+ albums over the course of 17 years with my brother Rhett in the band “The Lavone”.   I used to run an indie record label called Nuclear Gopher Productions which now goes by the name Band Kids Unite! and is under the leadership of my younger brother Reed.  So, music and the arts are things you’ll find here on this blog as well.

Last but not least, my family.  My wife Es and son Syd are two of the greatest people alive and they are a huge part of my life.  We also have a dog named Shiloh and a cat named Holden living in a an old farm house that was built in 1876 (it’s no longer a farm, but it is still cool).

There is much much more to tell, but that’s what the rest of the blog is for.  There are almost 150,000 words on here already, so dig in if you like and feel free to email me, ryanatryansutterdotnet.  Thanks!

Ryan
